How to generate traffic

The inability to generate traffic meant that I lost thousands of dollars since nobody knows my product existed.

The more I waited, the more money I lose. And it was such a pain knowing I’m losing money every day!

Like you, I thought the #1 problem for business owners is generating traffic. But did you know that “a traffic problem” is actually SOMETHING ELSE cleverly disguised?

You BELIEVE you have a traffic problem. You only get a few visitors each day and you’re frustrated no one is purchasing your offer.

The reality is there is no such thing as a traffic problem. What most people believe to be a traffic problem is actually a DISGUISE of something else.

The real problem is a CONVERSION problem.

Let me explain…

To get people to purchase from you, you need:

  1. Traffic/Visitors
  2. Conversion

Traffic/visitors come to your site and see your offer.

They either purchase or they don’t (conversion).

Put it simply:
Traffic + Conversion = Sales

If you double your traffic and the conversion stays the same = you double your sales.

If you double your conversion and the traffic stay the same = you double your sales.

If you double both your traffic and conversion = you 4x your sales.

The reason that ALL traffic problems are CONVERSION problems is because if you have a good system of converting visitors to customers, you can BUY traffic at will. There will be no more traffic shortage, ever.

The key is to spend less than what you make.

Example:

You drive visitors to your Lead Capture Page. From there you redirect people who optin to your Sales Page.

Lead Capture Page -> Sales Page

Traffic bought to Lead Capture Page = 1000 visitors @ $1/visitor
Cost = $1000
Lead Capture Page conversion = 30%
Subscribers generated = 300
# of people exposed to your Sales Page = 300
Sales Page conversion = 2%
# of customers = 6
Product/Offer price = $100
Sales revenue = $600

So you’ve just spent $1000 to get back $600. That’s a loss of $400!

But fear not. The key is not to profit on the first/front end sale to your customer. Hence you need to make them 1 or 2 more offers immediately after they said yes to your front end offer. This is called one-time-offers (OTOs) or upsells.

So the new flow is:

Lead Capture Page -> Front End -> OTO 1 -> OTO 2

(only people who’ve purchased your front end will be exposed to OTO 1 and OTO 2)

This is what we call a Sales Funnel.

Traffic bought to Lead Capture Page = 1000 visitors @ $1/visitor
Cost = $1000
Lead Capture Page conversion = 30%
Subscribers generated = 300
# of people exposed to your Front End = 300
Front End Sales Page conversion = 2%
# of Front End customers = 6
Front End Offer price = $100
Front End Sales revenue = $600
# of people exposed to your OTO 1 = 6 (remember, 6 people bought your Front End)
OTO 1 conversion = 20%
OTO 1 price = $200
OTO 1 sales revenue = $240
# of people exposed to your OTO 2 = 6 (remember, 6 people bought your Front End)
OTO 2 conversion = 15%
OTO 2 price = $500
OTO 2 sales revenue = $450

Total sales revenue = $600 + $240 + $450 = $1290

Now we’re spending $1000 to get $1290. That’s a 129% ROI (Return On Investment).

Even if you were just breaking even (spend $1000 to get $1000) – it’s a good starting point. This means you get a customer for free, and you get to contact this customer to build trusting relationships so that you can sell more offers in the future. And since you already have his contact info (especially email), it literally doesn’t cost you anything else to market to him.

This means any subsequent sale to him is ad-cost-free. If you’re selling a digital product, your profit margin is close to 100% because there is literally no more cost.

The cost per customer acquisition is the highest at the first point of contact – in this case the first point of contact is when the customer first saw your ad that leads to your lead capture page. Once he becomes your customer, you can contact him at will.

When you understand this important business concept that ALL high earners are using every single day in their business, that’s when you’ll STOP worrying about traffic and focus on optimizing your conversions instead.

Because there is no such thing as a traffic problem. All traffic problems are conversion problems. Period!

So how do you optimize your conversions? The answer lies in optimizing your sales funnels for maximum ROI!

Optimizing a sales funnel doesn’t have to be hard or complicated… IF you’re using the right TOOL designed for small and home based online businesses.

Here’s the #1 secret

You must know your CURRENT sales numbers first. Only then can you start improving them!

What is your monthly visitors number? How many of them convert to customers (conversion)? What’s your Earnings per click (EPC)?

To know these numbers without any shadow of doubt, you need to be using a shopping cart that provides these metrics. By the way, using ONLY PayPal to process orders won’t cut it because PayPal does not give you these vital numbers – PayPal merely process your orders and leaves you blind about how to multiply your income.

The bad news is that these numbers – number of visitors, conversion rate, and EPC are not enough if you truly want to optimize your funnels and take it to the next level. These numbers are only a starting point for those who are just setting up their first sales funnel.

For you who want to optimize it further and squeeze maximum profits, you need to know more data, much much more…

Can you easily and quickly look up your numbers over the past 7 days, 30 days, or even past year – including numbers such as:

  • Which traffic sources/Sub-IDs are converting and which are not?
  • What is your average Lifetime Customer Value (LCV)?
  • What is your average LCV for a particular traffic source or affiliate?
  • What is the average retention rate for a particular recurring product/service?
  • Can you predict your income based on your past sales history?
  • How much money is coming in for any individual product or sales funnel?
  • What is the conversion rate, refund rate, and EPC (earnings per click) for any individual product or sales funnel?
  • How much are affiliates earning for any individual product or sales funnel?
  • How much sales are referred by affiliates and how much are from your own efforts?
  • Who are my top 10 affiliates? What is the EPC for every single one of them?
  • Which affiliates are sending junk traffic? Can I identify and ban them?
  • What is the total revenue produced by an individual affiliate (know who your SUPER AFFILIATES are and who to build stronger relationships with)?
  • How many customers do I have, overall? And do I have their contact info (email) so that I can follow up with them easily?
  • How many customers do I have for an individual product? Who are they? Can I export this list so that I can share with my partner whom I’ve partnered for this product?
  • Can I do a search on a each customer and see how many products he have purchased from me? How many has he refunded? How much money has he spent on me? If he has too many refunds, can I ban him so that he can’t purchase my product(s) anymore?
  • There are many more numbers your shopping cart should be tracking and reporting for you, but we don’t have time to go into all of them here.

Knowing metrics like these allow you to know EXACTLY how well your business is doing. How healthy is your business? No more guessing, no more “erm… it SEEMS the business is doing good”.

By knowing EXACTLY how your business is performing at EVERY ASPECT, you can spot weaknesses and improve them.

Which part of your sales process is not performing up to expectations? Improve them!

Why is the refund rate so high? Pinpoint the problem and fix it!

Why are affiliates referring so few sales? It may be because their EPC is too low. Could it be that your sales page is not converting well? There may be a simple fix for this.

THAT’S the key to optimizing your sales funnel. When your funnel is optimized, you can buy traffic at will.

Think of your funnel as an OPTIMIZED SYSTEM that is consistent and predictable – when you put in traffic/visitors at the top… money comes out at the bottom.

How much traffic would you pour down the funnel?

You might think “No way! That’s too much work with so many questions to answer. How do I get these numbers if my current shopping cart provider does not provide them?”

Or “I don’t have time to dig around for hours just to find out these numbers so that I can improve my sales funnel”.
