Smart Email Automation (for much better engagement) Is Almost Here

Just a quick message to update you what’s been going on behind the scenes at Zaxaa — which will definitely interest you if you’re a hard core marketer.

For over a year now, we’ve been developing Zaxaa Ultimate Automation — which is the current Zaxaa you see now (sales funnel shopping cart) PLUS smart email automation capability like the ability to send out sequenced and broadcast emails based on user tagging and dynamic behavior.

In short, Zaxaa Ultimate Automation is an all-in-one sales funnel shopping cart + CRM platform.

If you’re wondering what makes our email engine different than traditional email autoresponders like Aweber, iContact, and MailChimp, this is the difference…

Traditional email autoresponders are linear in nature — meaning you schedule emails to be sent out at predetermined intervals (sequence) and that’s it. Sure you can use rules to subscribe or unsubscribe someone if he subscribed or unsubscribed to another list. But basically that’s it.

With our email automation engine, you can further refine your marketing follow ups and segment your audience deeper.

Let me give you 2 examples.

Example 1:

  • John joins your “general widget” list to get your free report
  • John opens email #2 and clicks on link #1 inside the email -> you tag them with “interested in blue widget”, automatically subscribe him to the “blue widget” sequence, and unsubscribe him from the “general widget” sequence
  • You then sell your paid offer for blue widget in the “blue widget” sequence. You have 7 emails in total in this sequence. Turns out after 7 emails, John still didn’t buy.
  • At the end of the sequence, you remove the “interested in blue widget” tag, add a new tag “didn’t purchase blue widget”, and automatically move him from “blue widget” sequence to another sequence which promotes something else

Example 2:

  • You want to sell your high end offer only to previous customers who have spent at least $2,500 with you
  • You set up a sequence containing 5 emails to promote your high end offer
  • Only these customers who have spent at least $2,500 with you are added to the sequence and start receiving emails
  • Those who purchased are tagged “bought high end offer” for further segmenting and use in the future
  • If you’re using different platforms for your shopping cart and email system, it’s very hard (if not impossible) to achieve what I described above. You have to create complicated workarounds (if there is one). Even then, the sales data (at least $2,500) might not be accurate because the email system is not the shopping cart taking the orders. Because Zaxaa is an all-in-one shopping cart + email system, the data is accurate.

Setting all these rules and conditions inside Zaxaa is — as usual — easy and straightforward.

We’re wrapping up our internal testing and about to release beta, tentatively next month.

While we can’t disclose the pricing for Zaxaa Ultimate Automation at this time… obviously, since it’s beta we’re going to heavily discount the price, and you’ll be locked (grandfathered) into that price, for as long as you maintain an active subscription. Ultimate Automation will be a different plan than Premium or Instant Automation.

However, because we want to focus on serving and helping our beta users get as much out of Ultimate Automation as we can, we have to limit the number of beta users. Otherwise, we’ll be overwhelmed.

We’re going to release beta in batches, and each batch will have a limited number of beta users, most likely 20 – 30 users. It will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

Enhanced Coupon Feature + Passing Macro Variables To Your Sales Page URL

Some time ago, we enhanced the Coupons feature and added in a new feature for Sales Page url… but because we haven’t told you about it, we thought today would be a good time to do so.

Coupon Enhancement And New Blocking Feature

If you go to the Coupons page, you can see that the page is now clearer, more manageable, and easier to locate coupons that you want to search for.

E.g. You ran a birthday special last month and you want to find out how successful the promo was.

Simply go to the Coupons page and search by “Coupon Code” and you’ll be able to instantly see how many people took up on your birthday discount promo:


In this example, let’s say you don’t want to credit affiliates for people who took up on this birthday promo, you can do so easily too.

Simply edit the said coupon and enable the “Block Affiliate” feature:



New Feature – Pass Macro Variables To Your Sales Page URL (Advanced Users Only)

We currently have 3 variables that you can pass, namely:

– Sub ID

– Affiliate username

– Affiliate email

E.g. 1: You drive traffic to your sales page via a certain Facebook ad campaign and you use the Sub ID “fb-green-video”. When people see your ad and click it, this Sub ID will be passed to your sales page url. From there you can use your own custom script to capture this Sub ID information and use it however you want.

E.g. 2: Your affiliates drive traffic to your sales page. When their audience click on their affiliate link, their affiliate username or email will be passed to your sales page url. From there you can use your own custom script to capture this affiliate information and use it however you want.

Here’s How To Pass Macro Variables To Your Sales Page URL

First, make sure you’re in “Advanced View” (the right tab on every Zaxaa page)

Go and edit the product in question >> [page settings] >> [sales page settings] and you’ll see this:


Simply click the” Click here” button to reveal the different types of macro variables that are available.

2 Big Affiliate Improvements

We’ve listened to your feedback again (and also thanks to Nathan Brown for his wise suggestions) and made 2 BIG improvements as a result:

1. We’ve further improved the affiliate sign up flow so that your affiliates have an even easier, faster, and overall better user experience when trying to promote your offers.

2. We’ve also improved how we report EPC (earnings per click) specifically for affiliates — making it very useful for them to choose the right offer to promote in exchange for predictable commissions.

The First Improvement

Now your affiliates have an even easier, faster, and overall better user experience when trying to promote your offers.

As before, for affiliates to promote your offer — all you need to do to is to give them the Affiliate Page URL of your product, which can found inside your product settings >> [integration settings] >> [affiliate page url]:

When your affiliate clicks this url and he doesn’t have a Zaxaa account yet or if he’s not logged in to this Zaxaa account, he’ll see this page:

If he’s already logged in to his Zaxaa account, he can instantly get his affiliate link and promo tools that you’ve provided — which he can then immediately start promoting your product.

The Second Improvement/New Feature

…is in how we report EPC (earnings per click) specifically for affiliates — making it very useful for them to choose the right offer to promote in exchange for predictable commissions.

Affiliates have a lot of options to choose which offers they want to promote. Not surprisingly, one of the most important factors they take into account is EPC.

The higher the EPC, the more enticing it is for affiliates to promote.

Previously, you can only see the EPC for sellers.

E.g. EPC is $5 — this does not mean that an affiliate is getting $5 EPC. It simply means the seller is getting $5 EPC. To get the Affiliate EPC, you have to multiply that number by the commission % the seller is offering.

So if the seller is paying out 50% commissions, Affiliate EPC is $2.50

If the seller is paying out 30% commissions, Affiliate EPC is $1.50

But even multiplying like that is not entirely accurate, as the seller is also selling to his list — which means he’s going to have a higher conversion than yours because he is promoting his offer to his own list — meaning these people in his list has already warmed up to him. In essence, the calculation above is a bit skewed and an affiliate should expect slightly lower numbers.

What we did to improve the stats is we now provide TRUE Affiliate EPC.

Formula to calculate this = total commissions received by all affiliates/total unique visitors sent by all affiliates.

E.g. Your sales page receives a total of 500 unique visitors that are sent by affiliates. 7 of them bought your product @$100. Your product pays out 50% commissions.

This means Affiliate EPC = (7x$100×50%)/500 = $0.70

But we didn’t stop there!

While the data is now getting more accurate, there will always be scammy/junk affiliates who send low quality traffic (traffic exchange networks, spams, etc.)

This means the Affiliate EPC number is still going to be skewed — lower than it should be.

On the other hand, we also have Sellers/Vendors who like to cherry pick their top performing affiliate and showcase their “above the top EPC” on the affiliate page in an effort to convince other affiliates to promote their offers. What we know is that these results are not typical and hence should not be used as guidelines as to what kind of Affiliate EPC one can expect — i.e. Affiliate EPC in this case is higher than it should be.

So what’s an affiliate to do to get the most accurate Affiliate EPC data?

A more accurate and unbiased way is to list out the top 10 affiliates for a particular offer. But it can’t just be any affiliate. The affiliate has to make at least 10 sales to make it into this “top 10″ list. Otherwise, affiliates buying via their own link will also make it to this list as they’ll only purchase it once and get a very high conversion (and hence Affiliate EPC) — which again will skew this number.

Now that you have:

– the average Affiliate EPC
– the average Top 10 Affiliate EPC
– the Affiliate EPC of every single top 10 affiliate

you’ll have a more accurate expectation as to what kind of results you can get when promoting an offer.

All these data can now be seen on the Promote Products (Marketplace) page and on the Affiliate Page of your product.

From the screenshot above, it can be deduced that even though the Affiliate EPC average is only $0.29, the top 10 Affiliate EPC is $2.43 — meaning if you’re a legitimate marketer who knows what you’re doing, you can expect an Affiliate EPC nearer to $2.43 than $0.29

New Feature: Get Custom Info From Your Customers

Yes it’s time to announce the release of another new feature.

This time it’s the ability for you as the product seller to get any kind of information you want from your customer, on the Checkout page.

E.g. You can ask for their birthday, hobby, phone number, other personal info, etc.

The collected info will be available for your viewing on the Sales Report page >> go to the relevant transaction >> detail. You can also export this data in csv, excel, pdf, or print them on a white paper.

You can then use this data to get to know your customers better so that you can tailor more to their needs and wants — which of course will bring in more sales for you!

How To Get Custom Info From Your Customers

1. Make sure you’re in Advanced View (switch between Advanced and Simple View on the right tab on every Zaxaa page)

2. Go to your product settings >> [general settings] >> [ask custom info on checkout page] >> yes

Then simply the easy on-screen instructions and save your changes, and you’re good to go!

New Feature: Your Customers Can Update Their Credit Cards & Subscriptions Directly Within Zaxaa

Yes! We’ve released 2 more new Seller features:

1. Customers can update their credit card from within Zaxaa to continue paying for your recurring/subscription offers

This is useful because when their credit card expires/about to expire, they can easily and quickly update their credit card and billing details so that they can continue to pay for your offers.

2. Customers can switch their subscriptions/plans from within Zaxaa

This is useful when you have multiple plans — e.g. Silver, Gold, Platinum and customers want to switch from one plan to another. All they need to do is simply login to their account and switch.

Note: These 2 features can only be used for transactions that take payments using Stripe or

How Customers Can Update Their Credit Card

Login to their customer portal here and they’ll see a screen like this:

Click the “VISA” icon and customers will be brought to a screen where they can easily update their credit card and billing details.

Note: The “VISA” icon is only available for recurring/subscription products since that’s what the purpose of updating the credit card is for — so that customers can continue paying for your subscription offers.

How Customers Can Switch Their Subscriptions/Plans

Login to their customer portal here and they’ll see a screen like this:

Click the “arrow pointing upwards” icon as shown above and customers will be brought to a screen where they can easily switch/update their subscriptions/plans.

New Feature: Wishlist Member Integration

We already have our very own WordPress membership plugin called Zaxaa Member.

However, we receive feedback that some of our users are already using Wishlist Member for their existing membership sites, and as such want to keep things simple and manageable by continuing to use their Wishlist-powered membership sites instead of installing a new membership script.

We listened, and we’re proud to announce that Zaxaa now integrates with Wishlist Member.

Note: We still recommend that you use Zaxaa Member if you’re starting a new membership site, as it is the official WordPress membership plugin from Zaxaa, developed by Zaxaa for Zaxaa.

New Feature: Block Sales From Certain Countries

This new feature has been implemented based on the feedback from a number of users.

Whatever your reason is, you can now block sales from certain countries if you want.

One of the reasons might be because of the new EU VAT rules. Another reason could be you’re selling physical products and you only want to ship to your home country.

From inside your product settings >> [general settings] >> [more settings] >> [Block Sales From Certain Country(ies)] >> yes

Under [Redirect URL] field >> simply enter the url you want to redirect people (who are blocked) to.

New Feature: Split Test Sales Page

For Premium Automation users — did you know that you can now use Zaxaa’s built-in split-testing feature to split-test your sales page?

So you create 2 or more versions of your sales page, and then direct traffic to them, and see which one is converting the most sales for you.

Once you’ve found the winner, create another split test with the objective of beating this winner. Repeat the process over and over again, and you’ll consistently improve your conversions — which basically means more money in your pocket :)

How To Create A Split Test

As usual, make sure you’re in [advanced] view (the right tab on every Zaxaa page).

Go inside your product settings >> [page settings] >> [sales page settings] >> [use split test] >> select [yes] and follow the easy on-screen instructions:

You can add as many versions as you want (the above example shows 3 versions).

We also have an advanced feature to let you create a “set-n-forget” campaign (if you want):

New Feature: VAT For EU Countries

Update January 7, 2015:

We received a number of feedback asking the ability to just block sales from the whole EU or a certain country or group of countries, and we’ve listened and implemented this suggestion. More about this here.

A few months ago we released the original VAT feature that allows sellers to charge VAT to their customers.

Now, we’ve improved upon this VAT feature to comply with the new EU rules for 2015 — which states that the seller will need to charge the VAT rate of the country the customer is in.

To enable this feature, simply edit your product settings > [general settings] > [use VAT] > [yes] > [apply to European countries] > [yes] > [save changes]


Click the [?] tooltip and you’ll see the various VAT rates:



When this post was initially published, we forgot to inform you that you can view the VAT information gathered from your customers like the country they’re in, the amount of VAT charged, as well as other detailed info related to the transaction, on your Sales Report page >> find the transaction >> details (the document icon)

New Feature: Set The Default Payment Method

It’s time for another new feature!

When activating more than 1 payment processor/gateway inside your product settings, you can now set which payment processor/gateway you want to be the default one.

E.g. For your Yoga Training Course, you take payments using Stripe and PayPal, and you want to set Stripe as the default payment method.

Inside your product settings, simply choose these 2 payment processors and set Stripe as the default:

Remember to save your changes.

When customers go to the Checkout page, they’ll see this:

This gives YOU more control to take payments using YOUR preferred payment processor/gateway, while at the same time allowing customers to pay using THEIR preferred way.
